About the project

Following Uganda 2024 and 2025, in the Uganda 2026 project we once again handed over unconditional cash transfers in the Busoga region near Kamuli. 15 families first received 1,500,000 Ugandan shillings (approx. €350) each and, one month later, additional support of usually 500,000 Ugandan shillings. We also revisited the families from the previous year. Two of them also received additional support.

From Kampala, we rode two motorbikes for about five hours into the rural areas around Kamuli. Households there often have 6 to 8 members living on an average of just €1.25 a day. Selecting the families and making the payments took five full days in the field; the second visit one month later took two days.

The project team consisted of our local staff Matthias Kayanga and Dr Eria Wambi, with Lukas Neuwirth as project lead. The interviews were conducted in Lusoga and Luganda. The project was carried out in partnership with Makerere University in Kampala.

The full project report is in progress. After one year, we will visit all families again to document the long-term impact.

In cooperation with

Lions Club Gnarrenburg

Three of the 15 grants were funded by the Lions Club Gnarrenburg. The entire donation of €1,050 was passed on in full and directly to the three families of Grace, Sarah and Ivan. For the Lions Club, we prepared a partial project report documenting these three families.
